House history

Owens House was created in 1973 in honour of Kyffin Owen. Kyffin taught history at Kimbolton from 1920-63 and succeeded Cyril Gibbard as Second Master in 1953.

He was a former international amateur footballer and followed the school’s sport enthusiastically. He has a genuine schoolmaster’s interest in every single individual he taught or encountered. The cricket pavilion is also named after him. 

Along with William Ingram and Cyril Gibbard, he was instrumental in laying the foundations of the school we know today.

House news

House system

The house system at Kimbolton was introduced in 1940 by then Headmaster, William Ingram, for pastoral care and competition purposes.

Through our vertical House system, you will have exceptional opportunities to develop your leadership skills.

Through your Sixth Form tutor group, you will be paired with Third or Fourth Form (Year 9 and 10) groups for fortnightly sessions. These sessions:

  • Explore a range of discussion topics
  • Encourage debate, competition and games
  • Allow Sixth Form pupils to act as role models for younger peers, giving every Sixth Former the platform and opportunity to lead
