Sports Leadership Programme
Empowering future leaders: The Kimbolton Sports Leadership programme
At Kimbolton, we recognise that the benefits of sport extend far beyond the final whistle. Engaging in physical activity is life-changing; our pupils frequently report significant boosts in confidence, resilience, and overall wellbeing.
The Kimbolton Sports Leadership Programme harnesses this energy, using sport as a vehicle to develop the essential skills required to plan, develop, and deliver meaningful activities within our community. We empower Kimboltonians to become influential leaders through practical experience and dedicated volunteering.
Programme highlights:
This comprehensive pathway offers more than just coaching tips; it provides a professional foundation for future careers. Participants will:
- Earn nationally recognised qualifications: Including the Level 2 Qualification in Community Sports Leadership and specific National Governing Body (NGB) awards.
- Engage in practical workshops: Focused sessions on the nuances of leadership, coaching theory, and officiating.
- Mentor the next generation: Spend Thursday afternoons at Kimbolton Prep School, gaining hands-on experience by leading sports sessions for younger pupils.
- Serve the community: Represent the school by supporting and officiating at local sporting events
Leadership Skills Foundation: Level 2 qualification
The Level 2 Qualification in Community Sports Leadership is a professional stepping stone. Aligned with national standards, it equips learners to lead safe, purposeful, and engaging physical activities under indirect supervision.
This entry-level award introduces students to the Five Core Pillars of successful leadership:
Communication: Articulating ideas and instructions clearly.
Self-belief: Developing the confidence to lead and take initiative.
Self-management: Taking responsibility for personal development and scheduling.
Teamwork: collaborating effectively to achieve collective goals.
Problem-solving: Identifying challenges and adapting strategies in real-time.
The journey to employability: Beyond the pitch, this course refines the “soft skills” that employers value most. Pupils will see a measurable improvement in their ability to adapt to different environments, manage complex tasks, and communicate with diverse groups of people.
Course delivery
Students meet with their dedicated tutor weekly. The curriculum is a dynamic blend of:
- Theory & written work: Understanding the “why” behind effective leadership.
- Practical activities: testing theories through active movement and drills.
- Real-world application: leading sessions across the Senior and Prep schools and supporting community-wide fixtures.
Specialised coaching pathways
As part of the broader programme, pupils also have the opportunity to diversify their expertise through specialised courses, including:
- The FA Playmaker Course: A foundation in football coaching.
- The FA Guide to the Laws of the Game: Master the officiating side of Association Football.
