English as an Additional Language at Kimbolton Sixth Form
Mastering English is key to thriving academically and socially in a dynamic learning environment like Kimbolton Sixth Form.
Our English as an Additional Language (EAL) programme is designed to support international students, ensuring they excel in their A Level studies and beyond.
About the course
Course Code: N/A
Preferred EAL entry requirements: Students must demonstrate a willingness to engage fully in improving their English proficiency.
Our EAL programme provides focused lessons to help students excel in English for Academic Purposes (EAP), with a strong emphasis on preparation for the IELTS examination. These lessons are compulsory for both Lower Sixth and Upper Sixth EAL students, ensuring a solid foundation in academic English.
You’ll study:
IELTS preparation: gain the skills required to achieve a competitive score in this internationally recognised English language qualification.
Language fundamentals: build confidence in essential grammar, vocabulary, and language structures for academic success.
Listening and Speaking: develop skills for effective communication, including seminar participation and presentations.
Reading and Writing: enhance your ability to analyse texts and produce high-quality academic essays.
Assessment
The EAL programme complements your A Level studies by embedding English language support into your academic journey.
Students work towards proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, culminating in the IELTS examination, which assesses their readiness for university-level education.
Beyond the classroom
- Practical skills: apply English in real-life contexts, including presentations and group discussions.
- IELTS workshops: participate in dedicated sessions to master the exam format and improve scores.
- Cultural immersion: Engage in school events, trips, and activities to build confidence and fluency in social English.
- One-to-one support: Receive personalised feedback and tailored guidance from experienced EAL specialists.
