Your home from home
Kimbolton House (the Boys’ House) and White House (the Girls’ House) are both properties that combine a rich history and character with modern facilities that meet the needs of today’s teenagers.
You will find a relaxed family atmosphere in both boarding houses. We encourage boarders to personalise their rooms and to treat the houses like home, while respecting the needs of others. Younger pupils share rooms while older boarders have study bedrooms more akin to university accommodation.
Our team of boarding staff in each house are always on hand to provide help and guidance. Our Health Centre provides medical back-up, while our catering staff produce delicious, nutritional meals throughout the week. All boarders eat together in the Dining Room which reinforces their sense of community.
Meet the Houseparents
Kimbolton House – The Lawless Family
Mr Lawless has been Housemaster of Kim House for seven years, prior to that he was Housemaster of Gibbards’ (a senior day house) for five years. Mrs Lawless is Housemistress of Balyes House, and prior to that was Head of Girls’ Games.
They have twin boys, who have recently completed Sixth Form one is off to join the Royal Marines and the other studying Historic restoration, a daughter in our Fourth Form and a younger daughter.
As a family they spend a lot of time outdoors; camping, mountain biking and playing sports.
White House – The Hadden Family
Mrs Hadden has been at Kimbolton for 25 years and is currently Assistant Head (Pastoral) and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead and teacher of Geography. Previously, she has been a Resident House Tutor, Housemistress of Balyes House, and our CFF Contingent Commander.
Mr Hadden enjoys joining boarder activities (especially BBQs). They have two children, Charlie recently completed Sixth Form, and James is in our Fourth Form.
Finally, they have Monty a Patterjack dog who loves attention and is always available for walks! The Haddens like being outdoors, walking in the local countryside and spending time in Norfolk and France.
-
M left Kimbolton this summer after five years as a boarder in White House, a chapter of her life that she already looks back on with huge fondness, and an experience that she recognises will prove invaluable as she prepares for the next stage in her education. Both she and our family are hugely grateful to the White House team whose commitment and hard work made her time there so special.
Parent of a boarder
-
M found being able to study alongside her peers in the boarding house a huge benefit, particularly when revising for her GCSEs, when she could call on the older girls and the house team for help, support and guidance on exams. As she progressed into sixth form, M was encouraged to offer the same assistance in return to younger boarders, one of the responsibilities that she embraced as a senior member of the boarding house. As she prepared for her A Levels, M was keen to return to full-time boarding to focus on her studies, an arrangement that the house team were immediately happy to accommodate.
Parent of a boarder
-
Boarding gave my daughter the independence she lacked at home and opportunities to participate fully in school life because she wasn’t spending hours travelling every day.
