BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Business – new for 2027
The BTEC Business course offers a practical, engaging approach to understanding how businesses operate in the real world.
Equivalent to one A Level, it develops key skills in marketing, finance and enterprise, preparing students for university, apprenticeships or employment in a wide range of business-related careers.
Assessment
The BTEC Business course is assessed through a combination of coursework and external examinations, offering a balanced and supportive approach to learning.
Pupils complete four units over two years, equivalent in size to one A Level:
- Three mandatory units
- One optional unit
External Assessment (58%)
- Unit 2: Developing a Marketing Campaign
A task-based assessment completed under supervised conditions, where students analyse case study materials and design a marketing campaign. - Unit 3: Personal and Business Finance
A written examination assessing understanding of financial concepts, accounting and decision-making.
Internal Assessment (42%)
- Coursework-based units assessed through assignments, presentations and projects, such as:
- Investigating real businesses
- Producing reports and presentations
- Applying knowledge to realistic scenarios
Grading is awarded as Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction*, contributing UCAS points for university applications.
This structure allows students to demonstrate their learning through a range of methods, developing both academic knowledge and practical business skills.
