Funding the project

In this section

The next stage starts with you

The school will be funding much of what we need to create the new gym and we already have significant support from three major donors.  We are well on the way.

We would now like to give members of our wider community the opportunity to fund the most exciting bit: the equipment, itself.  The cost of all the items of equipment – well over 100 pieces in total – is £87,000.

What will happen if you donate

Any gift of any amount is very welcome and will be gratefully received.  All gifts will be acknowledged personally.

All donors (unless they request otherwise) will have their names etched into the purple-lit, glass wall in the gym itself.  They will also be named on a new donors’ recognition board and invited to “Donor Day”, two new initiatives we will be launching in 2026/27 to acknowledge and thank all who give to Kimbolton School.

We fully respect that not everyone is able to give at this time.  If you do not want to be asked for a gift, please inform Russell Speirs, the Head of Development, in complete confidence and you will not be contacted.  You can email him at rps@kimboltonschool.com

What your money will be used for?

Any gift to this project of any size is welcome, however you might be interested to know how different sizes of gift could be used.  Here are just a few examples.

  • A gift of £50 will buy a medicine ball or a sports mat
  • A gift of £100 will buy a rubber barbell or a beginner kettlebell set
  • A gift of £500 will buy two 7ft bars or a full set of dumbbells
  • A gift of £2,500 will buy one of two elliptical cross-trainers or the chest press machine
  • A gift of £3,000 will buy one of the two treadmills
Tax-efficient giving

Kimbolton School is a registered charity (No. 1098586) which means that donors and the school can benefit from tax-efficient giving.

Gift Aid scheme for UK tax payers

Kimbolton School can reclaim tax on all donations made by living UK taxpayers, under the Gift Aid scheme.  This entitles the school to reclaim from HMRC the basic rate of income tax you have already paid on your gift.  With the basic rate at 20%, this means that a gift of, say, £1,000 is worth £1,250 to Kimbolton School.

If you are a higher or additional rate tax-payer, you can also reclaim the difference between the basic rate of tax and the higher rate of tax (currently 40%) off the gross value of your gift, when it is time to submit your tax return.  Below is an illustration of how this might work:

Your gift Gross value to Kimbolton School (after Gift Aid) Actual cost of gift to a higher rate tax payer
£50£62.50£37.50
£100£125£75
£500£625£375
£1000£1250£750
£2500£3125£1875

For the Gift Aid scheme to apply, donors need to complete a simple gift aid form and they need to pay an amount of Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax in that year equal to or greater than the amount we reclaim.

Other ways of giving

If you would like to donate from outside the UK or to make a gift in some other way, other than a cash donation, please contact the Head of Development at Kimbolton School, Russell Speirs, whose details follow.  Thank you.

How to give

The best way to give is online or by bank transfer.

If you would like to donate online, you can do so by visiting the Charity Aid Foundation website where we have set up a specific landing page for donating to the Ian Knapp Fitness Suite campaign.  You can access this through the link below.

Using the CAF platform will automate the Gift Aid process so this should be a smooth and quick process.

Alternatively, you can make a bank transfer to the Kimbolton School Development Account.  We cannot publish the bank account details online so please contact Russell Speirs, Head of Development, to obtain them.

If you donate via a bank transfer, the advantage to the school is that we do not have to pay CAF fees.  However, it does mean you need to complete a separate gift aid form.  Russell can also send you a Gift Aid form at the same time as sharing the bank account details.  If you give via bank transfer please quote the reference “Fitness 2026”.

However and whatever you are able to give, thank you.
