The importance of philanthropy at Kimbolton School

Building for future generations.

From the swimming pool to the Wellbeing Centre, many of Kimbolton’s most significant developments have been made possible through a shared commitment to the future of the School.

Over the last twenty years, Kimbolton School has invested a significant amount to enhance the physical resources of the school.  These enhancements were funded by careful management of our income as well as prudent borrowing and were often supported by the generosity of benefactors.

Recent developments include The Queen Katharine Building, the swimming pool, the Wellbeing Centre near the senior school dining hall and the modern entrance and library in the Prep School.  All of these have, to varying degrees, have been made possible through philanthropic acts: gifts as small as £5 and as large as £50,000.

Of course, there has never been an obligation to give, and there isn’t now.  However, we are unable to fund all our capital projects from fee income alone.  Even with efficient administration and financial systems, careful purchasing and ambitious commercial enterprise programmes, the “surplus” on fees is insufficient to realise our ambitions.
