Combined Cadet Force (CCF) in Sixth Form
The spirit of adventure
Learn to fly. Take the lead. Set sail.
Kimboltonians are known for their adventurous spirit and what better place to hone this, than in our popular Combined Cadet Force (CCF)?
Kimbolton CCF is recognised as one of the strongest in the country offering discipline, challenges, fun, personal advancement and self-development. Some cadets pursue careers in the Armed Forces, but all cadets benefit from the ethos, integrity and high expectations we hold, no matter which future path they choose.
Our CCF is thriving and over 220 pupils join training every week, across three sections:
- Royal Navy
- Army
- Royal Air Force
Why join the CCF?
Membership opens up opportunities to participate in MOD-run cadet courses ranging from leadership to first aid or scuba diving. Many students gain valuable qualifications, enjoy collaborating with cadets from other units and enjoy a wealth of extra weekend and holiday activities such as:
- Our annual 48-hour Field Weekend at a local military or adventure site
- Single Service residential camps
Most CCF training takes place in our extensive campus, but we also head to Grafham Water for sailing, RAF Wittering for flying and various ranges for full-bore shooting.
CCF in Sixth Form
In Lower Sixth year you will work on attaining the advanced awards relevant to the three sections. Alongside this, you will be involved in planning, organising and delivering weekly sessions to younger cadets, building your teamwork and leadership skills.
Cadets of all sections will have the opportunity to attend internal or externally run instructor courses, which enable them to become effective teaching NCOs in the Upper Sixth Form.
There are many opportunities for cadets to attend extra training and camps throughout the year, be it a nationally organised activity, competitions, or our own range days, senior exercises, and adventurous training.
All cadets are proud to parade with the Contingent on Remembrance Sunday in support of the local branch of the Royal British Legion, and at our Annual General Inspection in May.
“Our Sixth Form Cadets gain a breadth of skills and confidence, as they lead and guide younger pupils through the CCF syllabus. It’s a unique opportunity to gain skills most young people won’t develop until they enter the workforce.”

“Kimbolton has helped me develop not only my strengths inside the classroom but also my personal qualities through being an Ingrams Prefect and taking an active role in CCF RAF activities. My dream of working in the veterinary world has been made possible by fantastic teachers and support during my Sixth Form years.”
James, Sixth Form student
Please note: Although we are proud of Old Kimboltonians who go on to join the Armed Forces, CCF is not a recruiting organisation; membership brings no liability for compulsory service or training in the Armed Services.
