A Level English Literature at Kimbolton
A Level English Literature at Kimbolton School takes you on an intellectual journey through some of the greatest works of literature. This course is perfect for students who love reading, analysing, and discussing texts.
You’ll explore the power of storytelling, examining the cultural, historical, and social contexts that shape literary works and their relevance today.
About the course
Course code: OCR English Literature (H472)
Preferred English Literature entry requirements: Grade 6 in GCSE English Language and English Literature is preferable. A passion for reading and a willingness to engage in discussion are essential.
A Level English Literature is a detailed exploration of prose, poetry, and drama, spanning various periods and genres. You will study texts from Shakespearean classics to modern works, analysing themes, characters, and literary techniques.
The course encourages critical thinking, detailed textual analysis, and creative interpretation. Students will also engage with different critical perspectives, enhancing their understanding of how literature reflects and influences society.
Assessment
During A Level English Literature, you will delve into engaging and thought-provoking texts across genres and time periods.
Assessment includes:
Component 1: Drama and Poetry Pre-1900 – includes analysis of plays by Shakespeare and other key works from the period.
Component 2: Component 2: Comparative and Contextual Study with a focus on American Literature.
Component 3: Coursework – an independent study comparing two literary texts of your choice.
The course develops skills in close reading, comparative analysis, and forming critical arguments.
Beyond the classroom
