What is a career?

A career is a life-long journey of learning, skills acquisition, knowledge, experiences and opportunities. At Kimbolton School, we are very proud to be an integral part of your child’s career journey, supporting and encouraging them as they grow and develop throughout the Senior School and beyond.

Careers activities in May at Kimbolton School

Higher Education and Careers Fair – Tuesday 13 May 2025, 6:00–7:30pm 4th Form to Lower 6th students are encouraged to attend this fantastic event to explore and research universities, apprenticeship providers, Armed Forces careers, gap years, and more. Parents and siblings are very welcome. A letter will be sent via Engage to register.

Managing University transition webinar – Thursday 15 May 2025, 6:00–7:00pm Upper 6th students and their parents are invited to a live webinar to support students transitioning to university. There will be a wealth of information, advice, and guidance, with time for questions at the end. A letter will be sent via Engage to register.

UCAS/Post-18 options day – Friday 23 May 2025, All day All Lower Sixth students will be off timetable and attending this event to investigate their post-18 options, with a focus on university and UCAS applications. There will be talks, opportunities for individual planning and research and students will meet their University/post-18 advisors.

How to prepare for a Careers Fair

Important advice for students and families on getting the most from the event. A presentation will be delivered to 4th and 5th Forms.

Spotlight on GCSE Food and Nutrition

GCSE Food and Nutrition blends creativity, science, and practical skills in a meaningful and enjoyable way. It offers far more than just the ability to cook – it equips students with lifelong skills that support health, independence, and a variety of career pathways.

Focus on the Teaching and Education industry

Education professionals play a vital role in shaping individuals and communities. Careers in education extend beyond classroom teaching, encompassing diverse roles and specialisms.

Career options:

· Teaching Assistants and Learning Support Staff – Providing classroom and one-to-one support.

· Special Educational Needs (SEN) Specialists – Tailoring education to individual needs.

Virtual work and career experiences

Routes into STEM 3rd and 4th Form – 28th-30th May 2025 (during half term)

A three-day experience that provides young people with an amazing chance to help understand the different routes available into further STEM education and career pathways. Students will gain first-hand experience of life at STEM educational providers and companies, spending one day at each. On completion of the course students will gain a Bronze level Industrial Cadets Award.

Get Into Dentistry Conference – Saturday 17th May 2025, 9:30am – 3:30pm

During this session, topics covered will be:

PwC’s Apprenticeship Programmes & Work Experience Opportunities webinar Tuesday 6th May 2025, 17:30-18:30pm

An introduction to the four year flying start programme with PWC combining studying towards a degree along with three paid work placements from the second year onwards. You will hear from PwC representatives and current apprentices at Reading University.

Environment Agency Virtual Work Experience – On demand

Students have an opportunity to explore careers in environmental protection, sustainability, and flood risk management.

Where can I get more careers advice and information?

Any student from 1st Form to Upper 6th who has questions about their career journey can arrange a careers appointment with Mrs Southern by filling in this form or speaking to their tutor.
