About the course

Our History course at Kimbolton focuses on the major events of the 20th century, examining international relations and the role of individuals, ideologies, and nations in shaping history. Key topics include:

International relations since 1919: explore the League of Nations, the Cold War, and the USA’s efforts to contain communism.
Germany 1918–1945: study the Weimar Republic, the rise of Hitler, and life in Nazi Germany.

Throughout the course, you’ll learn to analyse sources, evaluate evidence, and present well-argued conclusions, building skills that are invaluable for both academic and personal development.

Cambridge IGCSE History syllabus

Assessment

The Cambridge IGCSE History course is assessed through:

Two written exams (70%): Assess your knowledge, understanding, and ability to analyse key historical topics, focusing on critical evaluation of sources and constructing evidence-based arguments.

One coursework project (30%): A 2,000-word historical investigation completed during lessons and as homework. This allows you to explore a specific historical question or theme in depth, applying your research and analytical skills.

Beyond the classroom

History Society: participate in engaging discussions and projects on historical topics.
Educational trips: visit historic sites in Europe, such as Berlin, Munich, and Poland, to bring history to life.
