Digital learning in Prep
Inspiring curiosity. Building skills for life.
At Kimbolton Prep, technology isn’t an add-on — it’s part of the way our children learn, think, and create.
From exploring ancient fossils in augmented reality, to using Google Maps to travel our planet and coding robots to whizz across the floor; digital technology at Kimbolton Prep sparks creativity, builds independence, and inspires curiosity.
Our approach
At Kimbolton Prep, digital learning is woven into every area of the curriculum. Our aim is simple: to give pupils the tools, skills, and confidence to explore, create, and take ownership of their learning.
Children have access to a variety of devices and platforms to research, collaborate, and present their work. Emerging technologies such as augmented reality bring new environments into lessons, turning abstract concepts into hands-on experiences.
Our pupils don’t just use technology — they lead it. Selected “Digital Leaders” receive specialist training and assist peers and staff, developing leadership skills alongside technical expertise. Teachers, supported by our Innovation Lead, receive regular training to keep lessons fresh, inspiring, and relevant.

Core aims
During their time at Kimbolton Prep, we aim to help every pupil:
Think creatively and work collaboratively on projects with open-ended outcomes.
Embrace challenges and learn from mistakes — just as coders “debug” to find solutions.
Build strong digital literacy and an awareness of how to use technology safely and responsibly.
Access learning equally through tools that support every child’s needs.
Work independently and as part of a team using platforms such as OneDrive and SharePoint.
Understand emerging technologies — from AI to the latest coding tools — with a focus on ethical and responsible use.
Learning for today. Skills for tomorrow.
Our classrooms are alive with creativity. Pupils:
- Use iPads, interactive whiteboards, and portable computer suites to research, create, and present.
- Learn to code from Reception, developing problem-solving and logical thinking skills.
- Work on projects that encourage collaboration, independence, and resilience — where “debugging” mistakes is part of the fun.
Leaders in learning
Selected “Digital Leaders” train in our latest tools and help classmates and teachers, building confidence, leadership, and teamwork.
Safe, responsible and ready
From Reception onwards, pupils learn how to navigate the digital world safely and ethically — skills that will serve them far beyond the classroom.
Our digital advantage
- Augmented reality, coding equipment, and advanced robotics.
- Digital enrichment clubs such as Coding Club and Junk Modelling.
- Leading platforms including Tapestry, Seesaw, and Times Tables Rock Stars.
“By the time they move on to Senior School, Kimbolton Prep pupils are confident, capable, and curious digital citizens — ready for whatever the future holds.“
