Health Centre registration

The Health Centre is located behind Kim House, and has qualified nursing staff and a school counsellors working throughout the school day.

New pupils will have an appointment with the Health Centre to introduce themselves and discuss their individual medical and emotional situation. All pupils will be asked to fill in a medical form at the beginning of the term with any medical updates. This should be filled in and returned to the Health Centre.

It is suggested that pupils register with Kimbolton Medical Centre, as this can save a lot of time in an emergency and mean that House Matrons can take you to any required check-up appointments, such as asthma clinics, without missing a lot of lessons.

With a few exceptions (e.g. inhalers), no medication is to be kept in rooms – it must all be handed in to Matron and kept in the locked cupboard, from where Duty Staff will administer it. This includes paracetamol.

Please ensure that you have your NHS card with you.

Current medical requirements

It is important to let the Health Centre staff and, your Houseparent knows of any medical requirements, medication that you are taking and/or any allergies that you may have.

This will ensure they can best look after your medical needs and ensure you receive all of the support that you need.

What to do if you are ill

During the academic day if a pupil is hurt or unwell they should report to the School Health Centre. This is open Monday – Friday 8.30 am – 5.30 pm, for Saturday sports fixtures, there will be a duty first aider who will be available.

During the evenings and at weekends if a pupil is unwell they must go to the member of staff on duty.

Pupils can contact the member of staff on duty by finding them or texting/ringing the duty phone. There is a noticeboard in each house displaying who is on duty at all times. If a boarder wakes up feeling too unwell to go to school they must report this to their Houseparent or Matron, who will discuss with them the best course of action, and communicate with the School secretary as necessary regarding a possible absence. They are not required to contact parents to do this.

If a boarder is off school due to illness, the Health Centre may deem it appropriate for him or her to return to the Boarding House during the day. Any Boarder off school due to illness will remain in the Boarding House that day and evening (no activities or external social time will ensue).

Dentist and optometrist

It is suggested that you book appointments during the holidays. It may be possible for a member of School staff to take you to appointments; however there will be a cost incurred for this, including any taxi/travel expenses.

Counselling

There is support available for all boarders from boarding staff, school staff and head of houses. Or, you could speak with a friend within the boarding house.

If you have a concern relating to school, your School Tutor is normally the first point of contact. Within the boarding house, this will usually be your Houseparents and House Matron in the first instance.

However, all of the people listed below are available for you to speak to for support and guidance, or, to raise any concerns you may have:

An appointment can be booked with the school counsellors by email:

Catering

All dietary requirements and allergies are catered for. If a pupil has any specific requirements, they should let their Houseparent and House Matron know and they will ensure arrangements are made for this.

Boarders will be provided with all of their daily meals in the school dining hall with the exception of Saturday breakfast which is provided within the house. Daily snacks are provided in the boarding house, for pupils to take with them to school.

Provisions such as bread, spreads, fruit and milk are provided for pupils to make their own snacks in the afternoons, evenings and weekends. Fridges, kettles, microwaves and grills are provided, these are not permitted in rooms.
