Communication

Pupil contact with parents, guardians and carers

Boarders can contact their parents, guardians and carers during break times and free time. Pupils normally choose to use mobile phone, skype and email, although a house pay phone is also available. Boarders can post mail at the post box, on the Kimbolton High Street, and each boarder has a pigeonhole in the boarding house for receiving mail.

Boarders are not allowed to use mobile phones during lessons, during prep time or after lights out and must adhere to the school ICT Policy.

Parent, guardian or carers contact with the school

The Houseparent is the first point of contact for parents of boarders, they will then work with parents to raise any questions or concerns with the School Tutor.

Parent, guardian or carer contact information

Please inform the Houseparents immediately, in writing, of any updates in contact information.

Parents of overseas students are responsible for providing a guardian, and all information about the guardian should be sent to the school prior to the start of the school year, as per the communication from the Head of Admissions.

What to do if you want to visit a friend

Sometimes it is nice to get out and go to a friend’s house.

This is fine, but you must make sure that you have talked to your Houseparent about your plans if your friends live outside Kimbolton or it is an overnight stay your parents will need to contact your Houseparent 24 hours in advance to confirm they are happy with the details.

You must also make sure that you tell your Houseparent the address and a contact number for an adult at the house you will be visiting.

Travel in cars

Your Houseparents will need your parents’ or guardian’s permission before you get in any vehicles that are not school owned, or owned and driven by the Houseparent or Resident Tutor.

What to do if you want a guest to visit

Again, this is fine, but there can only be one guest per Boarder.

You must make the member of staff on duty aware of the fact that you have a guest and who it is.

You are responsible for that guest and should make sure that they sign in and out.

Pupils that are not part of the House are not allowed in Boarders’ rooms, so communal areas must be used.

What to do if you have issues or concerns

You can see your Form Tutor or your Houseparent. If it’s about school then they will normally discuss it between them how best to support you.

If your parents are concerned then they can also contact both, although may be easier for consistency if they contact the Houseparent. Remember you can also talk to any of the duty staff.

If this doesn’t help you can always ‘phone Childline or another agency.

If you feel that you cannot talk to them, then you can speak the Designated Safeguarding Lead Person (Mrs Garratt), to any one of the designated safeguarding team, the School Nursing Team, the School Counsellor or to the Independent Listener.

All of these contact details can be found on the notice board.
