Preferred PE entry requirements:: Grade 6 or higher in GCSE Combined Science or Physics, Chemistry, or Biology. An interest in sports and human biology is essential.

A Level Physical Education explores the science of sport and human movement, offering insights into anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and psychology. You will also develop practical skills as a performer or coach in your chosen sport.

This course bridges theoretical concepts with real-world applications, preparing students for further studies in sports science, physiotherapy, or coaching. With a mix of academic and practical elements, A Level PE is ideal for those passionate about understanding and improving physical performance.

Assessment

During A Level Physical Education, you will study a wide range of topics, integrating theoretical knowledge with practical skills.

Assessment includes:

  • Paper 1: factors Affecting Participation in Physical Activity and Sport – Covers anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and skill acquisition.
  • Paper 2: factors Affecting Optimal Performance in Physical Activity and Sport – Includes sports psychology, the role of technology in sport, and the sociocultural impact of physical activity.
  • Non-Exam Assessment (NEA): assesses practical performance in one sport, either as a player or coach, alongside a written analysis of performance.
    Practical applications are integral, ensuring students gain confidence in their ability to perform and analyse.
