The importance of educational guardians

All international students, regardless of age, must have an educational guardian while studying with us.

Guardians play a vital role in a student’s boarding experience and are expected to establish contact with the student’s tutor at the start of the course.

They should also attend parents’ evenings and school events, or ensure a suitable representative is present if they are unable to attend. If a guardian does not engage with school life or make an effort to visit, parents will be asked to appoint a more appropriate individual or guardianship organisation.

Guardians must:

  • Reside within 50 miles of the school.
  • Be available to host the student during school holidays and in exceptional circumstances, such as illness or disciplinary matters. They are also fully responsible for arranging travel and accommodation for the student during these times.
  • Communicate effectively with the student, parents, and the school.
  • Be able to travel to the school at short notice if required.
  • Represent parents at parents’ evenings and other school events where parental presence would normally be expected.
