A Level Further Mathematics
A Level Further Mathematics at Kimbolton
Unlock the power of mathematics with A Level Further Maths at Kimbolton School.
Whether you aspire to be a pioneering engineer, an innovative physicist, or a cutting-edge data scientist, this course takes you beyond the basics to explore the advanced and abstract realms of mathematics, fostering skills that will set you apart.
Assessment
The assessment for A Level Further Maths consists of four written papers, each testing different aspects of the course:
- Paper 1 & Paper 2: Core Pure Mathematics 1 and 2
These papers cover topics such as complex numbers, matrices, vectors, proof, calculus, and differential equations. - Paper 3: Further Mechanics or Further Statistics 1
- Mechanics: Topics include momentum, collisions, elasticity, and advanced kinematics.
- Statistics: Explore probability distributions, hypothesis testing, and regression analysis.
- Paper 4: optional module
Choose an additional module that aligns with your interests, such as Further Mechanics 2, Further Statistics 2, or Decision Mathematics.
Each paper is equally weighted and designed to assess your theoretical understanding and problem-solving abilities.
Beyond the classroom
- Guest speakers: learn from mathematicians in academia and industry.
- Maths challenges: compete in national and international competitions.
- University preparation: participate in tailored workshops for STEM applications.
- Publications: read advanced mathematical texts and journals like The Mathematical Gazette.
- Enrichment Opportunities: engage in MOOCs and podcasts focusing on advanced topics.
