Preferred Drama entry requirements: Grade 6 in GCSE Drama or GCSE English Literature is preferable. A genuine interest in theatre and a collaborative spirit are essential.

This course explores the vibrant world of drama and theatre, covering everything from dramatic literature to technical and performance skills. You’ll gain insight into the creative processes behind productions, including directing, acting, and designing for the stage. Practical work involves participating in group performances, where you’ll bring scripts to life and experiment with innovative ideas.

Alongside this, you’ll delve into theatre theory, analysing the work of renowned playwrights and practitioners. This course is perfect for students who enjoy storytelling, performance, and understanding the broader societal impact of theatre.

Assessment

During A Level Drama and Theatre, you will explore the art of performance, learn theoretical approaches to theatre, and engage in creative projects. The course provides a balanced mix of practical and academic work.

Assessment includes:

  • Component 1: Devising – students create an original performance piece, drawing on a chosen theatre practitioner.
  • Component 2: Text in Performance – includes performing a key role in a group performance and/or designing for a production.
  • Component 3: Theatre Makers in Practice – a written exam analysing live theatre and exploring set texts from a director’s and performer’s perspective.

Practical work is integrated throughout, ensuring students gain hands-on experience in theatrical production.
