Assessment
During A Level Chemistry, you will develop theoretical knowledge and practical expertise across a range of topics. The course is assessed through three written exams:
- Paper 1: Focuses on periodic table elements, physical chemistry, and inorganic chemistry.
- Paper 2: Covers synthesis and analytical techniques in organic chemistry.
- Paper 3: Assesses your practical skills, along with content from the entire course.
Practical work is not graded separately but is integrated into the course, ensuring you develop essential laboratory skills.
Beyond the classroom
- Competitions: Participate in the Cambridge Chemistry Challenge and the Chemistry Olympiad.
“Chemistry helps us understand the world and create solutions for tomorrow’s challenges.”
You will enjoy Chemistry if you…
- Are curious about how substances interact and transform
- Enjoy hands-on practical experiments and data analysis
- Want to explore the chemical foundations of medicine, engineering, or technology
- Are interested in tackling global issues like climate change and sustainable energy.
“Chemistry is essential for careers in medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, pharmacology, and environmental science.”
