Course code: OCR Chemistry A (H432)
Preferred Chemistry entry requirements
Grade 7 or above in GCSE Chemistry or Dual Science. Preferably, a similar grade in GCSE Mathematics. Ability to write concisely and precisely.
OCR Chemistry A (H432) provides an in-depth exploration of core chemical concepts and their real-world applications. Topics include:
- Atomic structure and bonding: Understand how atoms combine to form the substances around us.
- Chemical reactions: Explore the energy changes and rates that govern reactions.
- Organic chemistry: Study synthetic pathways used in pharmaceuticals and industrial processes.
- Practical experiments: Reinforce your understanding of chemical theories with hands-on work.
Frequent laboratory sessions enhance your learning experience, allowing you to develop precise analytical and experimental skills.
Assessment
During A Level Chemistry, you will develop theoretical knowledge and practical expertise across a range of topics. The course is assessed through three written exams:
- Paper 1: Focuses on periodic table elements, physical chemistry, and inorganic chemistry.
- Paper 2: Covers synthesis and analytical techniques in organic chemistry.
- Paper 3: Assesses your practical skills, along with content from the entire course.
Practical work is not graded separately but is integrated into the course, ensuring you develop essential laboratory skills.
