A Level Art – Fine Art – at Kimbolton

We are unique in allowing artistic/creative students to study all three of our art-based subjects together.

About the course

Course code: AQA Art and Design: Fine Art (7202)

Preferred Art entry requirements
An independent approach to thinking and a willingness to generate own ideas is essential. It is preferable to have GCSE Art at Grade 6 or above. Ideally Grade 5 in English Language or English Literature.

Our AQA Art and Design – Fine Art, course introduces students to at least three artistic disciplines, such as ceramics, printmaking, and painting.

  • Lower Sixth: Students develop skills and create a sustained portfolio project, which is internally assessed. This stage emphasises technical ability and experimentation.
  • Upper Sixth: Students undertake a personal investigation, culminating in a 3000-word essay that explores the development of their work and the artistic influences upon it.

The course concludes with a 15-hour practical exam in May, where students produce a final piece, followed by an open art exhibition in the summer term.
