A Level Art, Design & Photography at Kimbolton

About the course

Course: Eduqas Art, Design and Photography

Preferred Art entry requirements
An independent approach to thinking and a willingness to generate own ideas is essential.

It is preferable to have GCSE Art at Grade 6 or above. Ideally Grade 5 in English Language or English Literature.

Our Eduqas Art,Design & Photography course introduces students to a range of artistic disciplines, which can be catered to each individual. If Photography is your chosen Media, then a Digital SLR camera is necessary.

Lower Sixth: Students develop skills and create a sustained portfolio project, which is internally assessed. This stage emphasises technical ability and experimentation.

Upper Sixth: Students continue a personal investigation with an element of extended writing that explores the development of their work and the artistic influences upon it. An Exam paper is issued in the February where they have 10 school weeks to complete a project.

The course concludes with a 15-hour practical exam in May, where students produce a final piece.

Work will then be displayed followed by an open art exhibition in the summer term.

Assessment

The A Level Course is based on two elements. A Personal Investigation worth 60% of the overall mark and an Externally Set Assignment worth 40% of the Overall mark.

Both projects are made up of 4 Assessment Objectives

The same four assessment objectives apply across both components. Each assessment objective is equally weighted.

Below are the assessment objectives for this specification.

Learners must demonstrate their ability to:

  • AO1 Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.
  •  AO2 Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops.
  •  AO3 Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress.
  • AO4 Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.
