GCSE Maths & Further Maths at Kimbolton
GCSE Maths at Kimbolton School equips you with essential problem-solving and analytical skills that are valuable in everyday life and future careers.
Whether you’re mastering the fundamentals or exploring advanced topics, this course builds the mathematical proficiency required for further study and professional success.
About the course
The Maths course at Kimbolton is designed to cater to a wide range of abilities.
Key topics include:
- Algebra
- Number work
- Geometry
- Trigonometry
- Data handling and statistics
Pupils are placed into sets based on their ability to ensure they are appropriately challenged.
- Sets 1–4: higher level (grades 4–9)
- Sets 5 and 6: foundation level (grades 1–5), with the opportunity to progress to higher level in the Fifth Form.
Set 1 and most of Set 2 pupils will also take the AQA Level 2 Further Mathematics exam to extend their skills in topics like differentiation and vectors.
Assessment
Maths is assessed via two written exams for the Edexcel IGCSE:
- Paper 1: covers a range of topics and allows the use of a calculator.
- Paper 2: allows calculator use and focuses on applying mathematical concepts.
For those taking AQA Further Mathematics, assessment includes two additional exams focusing on advanced algebra, calculus, and geometry.
