Making waves: the impact of Kimbolton School swimming pool

Kimbolton School swimming pool has long been a hub of aquatic activity, providing a vital resource for both school pupils and the wider community. Following a major refurbishment in 2024, we are now able to offer even more opportunities for swimmers of all ages and abilities.

A new era for swimming at Kimbolton

After a five-month transformation, our modernised facility is better than ever. The 25 x 10 metre, five-lane pool, complete with competitive starting blocks, ensures that every swimmer—whether a beginner or an advanced athlete—can train and develop their skills in a top-class environment.

We have extended our opening hours and expanded our offering to cater for a wide range of swimmers, from toddlers taking their first dip to seasoned competitors.

A pool for everyone

Kimbolton School swimming pool operates as a dual-use facility, serving both Kimbolton School pupils and the wider community. Our public swimming programme includes:

  • Lane swims for those looking to improve fitness.
  • General swims for relaxed, recreational swimming.
  • Floats fun and toddler splashes, making water confidence fun from an early age.

Developing the next generation of swimmers

Our swimming academy is at the heart of our commitment to swimming education, teaching around 300 children from 12 months old through to club-level swimmers. Beyond regular term-time sessions, we also run a diverse range of holiday courses, including:

  • Diving lessons
  • Technique workshops
  • Private swimming lessons
  • First aid and water safety courses

These offerings ensure that every child can develop lifelong water safety skills while enjoying the many benefits of swimming.

A thriving hub for local clubs and schools

Our commitment to community engagement is something we take great pride in. We have forged strong relationships with local clubs and organisations, including:

  • St Neots Swans – our long-standing partner since the pool opened in 2000. The club has expanded to 9.5 hours of training per week, and many of our academy swimmers have gone on to train and compete with them.
  • Local schools – five primary schools and one specialist school hire the pool annually for swimming lessons, with our dedicated coaching staff delivering many of these sessions.
  • Community groups – we are proud to support charities and organisations, including:
    • Children Burns Charity and Burns Club
    • Brownies and Scouts groups
    • Local rowing club (for safety and capsize drills)

Swimming at Kimbolton School

Within the school day, the pool plays a central role in the Kimbolton School curriculum.

  • All pupils from Reception to Senior school receive weekly swimming lessons, delivered by our expert staff.
  • Both Kimbolton Prep and Senior School have competitive swim squads, providing opportunities for talented swimmers to train and compete at a high level.

More than just a pool

Kimbolton School swimming pool is more than just a place to swim—it’s a community asset, a training ground for future champions, and a hub for water safety education. Whether you’re a school pupil, a parent, a community swimmer, or an aspiring athlete, we are here to support your journey in the water.

With our refurbished facilities, expanded public sessions, and ongoing commitment to community engagement, we are proud to be making a real impact in the lives of swimmers of all ages.
