Celebrating World Book Day: share a story
We celebrated World Book Day with a full day of exciting book-themed activities centred around our theme “Share a Story.” The day inspired a love of books and storytelling across all year groups.
We were delighted to welcome visiting storyteller Dave Tonge, who led storytelling sessions with every Prep class throughout the day. He also hosted a special break-time storytelling session in the library and led a Prep whole-school assembly.

There was also a “Spot the Reader” competition, where Prep classes tried to identify which staff members were reading extracts from their favourite children’s stories. The winning class received a plate of cookies to enjoy together during reading time.
Our librarians also organised the popular ‘Get Caught Reading’ competition for the Prep School, encouraging pupils to celebrate reading in creative ways.
At the Prep School, pupils and staff joined in the fun by dressing up as characters from their favourite stories, bringing books to life across the school. Pupils also took part in Class Story Sharing, bringing in their favourite book to read and share with pupils from other year groups. Classes were paired up so that children could read together and enjoy each other’s stories.

During the day, both the Prep and Senior school took part in D.E.A.R (Drop Everything and Read). Senior pupils and staff took this time to enjoy reading their own book, whereas Prep pupils had visits from some special guests to share a story. Sixth Form pupils headed to Lower Prep classrooms, and other members of the school community also volunteered to read to different classes, including Headmaster Mr Chuter.

Year 6 pupils enjoyed getting involved in BBC Live Lessons as well as debate style English lesson led by members of the Senior School English Department. Meanwhile, Year 5 pupils headed outdoors to take part in a World Book Day orienteering challenge.
To round off the day, our catering team served a book-themed lunch, adding another imaginative touch to a wonderful celebration of reading.
It was a fantastic day filled with stories, creativity and a shared love of books.
