After being selected for the Mercian Marauders (Midlands) U13 squads, Thea C. and Nick R. represented their teams in the UK Lions tournaments held at the Nottingham Hockey Centre. The tournament brought together the best U13 players from across the UK and Ireland, offering a highly competitive environment and international-style experience.
Thea played a key role in the Mercian Marauders girls’ team’s unbeaten run to victory, with 21 goals scored and only 2 conceded. She played a crucial part in the final against the West Panthers by trapping a corner to set up the winning goal. Over the weekend, Thea earned two Player of the Match awards and scored six goals during the tournament, thoroughly enjoying the experience and making some great new friends.
Nick also had a fantastic tournament, leading the boys’ team to victory. The boys’ side stayed unbeaten as well, scoring 27 goals and conceding just 3. Nick’s strong performances in midfield were central to the team’s success, and he played a big role in their UK Lions tournament trophy win.
Both Thea and Nick had an unforgettable time representing the Mercian Marauders, learning a great deal about themselves and the game.
