Pupils Henry D. and James A. attended this year’s BBC Radio Cambridgeshire Make a Difference Awards after being announced as finalists in the Young Hero category.

The awards celebrate local people who have made a positive difference within their communities. Henry and James were nominated by the charities they supported through their Fenathlon fundraising challenge, recognising their commitment to raising awareness and funds for wildlife conservation.

The Fenathlon is an ambitious endurance challenge covering 36 miles (58km) and combining cycling, kayaking and walking. Along the route, Henry and James travelled through six nature reserves, completing an impressive journey through the Cambridgeshire Fens.

Their challenge began at Woodwalton Fen, a Wildlife Trust reserve, where they set off by bike towards St Ives. There, they swapped their bikes for kayaks and paddled along the River Great Ouse towards Ouse Fen, an RSPB reserve. The final section of their challenge was completed on foot, finishing at Wicken Fen, a National Trust nature reserve.

At the awards ceremony in 22 September, Henry and James were delighted to receive came Highly Commended in the Young Hero category. Congratulations to Henry and James on this fantastic achievement!
