On Tuesday, 4 March 2025, a small group of year pupils from Kimbolton School attended the Health and Care Careers Expo at KingsGate Conference Centre in Peterborough. This dynamic event, which showcased a wide range of opportunities within the health and social care sectors in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, provided an invaluable experience for our pupils, keen to explore potential career paths in this vital industry.
The afternoon was packed with exciting, hands-on activities designed to give pupils a glimpse into the realities of working in health and care. From simulated baby deliveries, creating and learning about human waste and CPR training to fun challenges like cycling competitions and testing for germs, the pupils had the chance to engage with the field in an interactive way. They also learned about the technical aspects of healthcare, such as inserting a cannula and understanding how to manage medical situations.
Throughout the day, pupils were able to speak directly with industry professionals, gaining insights into their roles, responsibilities and the various career routes available in the sector. Experts were on hand to discuss career pathways, entry requirements and the qualifications needed for different roles, while universities and apprenticeship providers offered valuable advice on making successful applications, including to NHS roles.
Our pupils left the event excited and inspired by the diverse opportunities available in the health and care industries, and many expressed an interest in pursuing these careers further.
It was a fantastic and engaging experience, one that provided a hands-on, immersive look at the world of health and care. The day was a real highlight for everyone involved, sparking new interests and broadening career aspirations.
