K-Pop artist Shao Hao inspires pupils during Pride Month visit

As part of its Pride Month programme, Kimbolton School welcomed Chinese British K-Pop singer and songwriter Shao Hao for an afternoon of music, discussion and reflection on Wednesday 26 June.

Shao Hao, an openly LGBTQ+ artist and advocate for mental health, inclusion and equality, delivered two powerful sessions to Third Form (Year 9) and Ingrams (Year 7 & 8) pupils in the Lewis Hall. His visit began with a live performance, showcasing his distinctive sound and stage presence, followed by a candid and thoughtful talk covering topics such as mental health, homophobia, racial discrimination and the importance of self-expression.

A graduate of the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance and IMW Studio in Vocal and Music Production (First-Class Honours), Shao Hao shared insights from his own journey—both as a musician and as an individual navigating the challenges and opportunities of being a minority voice in the music industry. His message of resilience and kindness resonated strongly with pupils, sparking engaging questions during the Q&A session that followed.

Pupils also had the chance to meet Shao Hao briefly after the event, with many expressing their appreciation for his honesty, creativity and encouragement.

Mrs Laura Hadden, Assistant Head Pastoral at Kimbolton School, said:

“It was a privilege to welcome Shao Hao to Kimbolton. His openness and authenticity left a lasting impression, and his message aligned perfectly with our values of kindness, courage and integrity. Events like this are vital in helping young people feel seen, heard and supported.”

Kimbolton School extends its thanks to Shao Hao for visiting and sharing his story so generously. His visit served as a meaningful reminder of the power of music, conversation and representation in fostering empathy and understanding.
