Kimbolton School’s historic Castle state rooms were filled with talent and emotion during the recent Ingrams House Music Competition. Judged by Assistant Director of Music, Eleanor Wilson and Director of Music, David Gibbs, the event showcased the musical abilities of students, each delivering impressive performances across a range of genres.
The competition opened with Georgina C., whose heartfelt rendition of Keane’s Something to Rely On set a high standard for the morning. Following her, Sophie W. presented an engaging a cappella version of the Lava Song from Disney, charming the audience with her vocal skill.
Izzy P-N. then took the stage with Ruth B.’s Lost Boy, offering an emotive performance that resonated within the historic surroundings. The mood shifted as Mr Gibbs accompanied Adrien B. in a spellbinding rendition of a French chorale piece, showcasing impressive technical ability.
Lucas R. delivered a rousing performance of Javert’s “Stars” from Les Misérables, so moving that it caused the judges to pause in their notes. Toby T.’s expressive and poignant rendition of Elton John’s Your Song, dedicated to his nan, added a touching personal dimension to the morning.
Elizabeth L. brought the magic of The Greatest Showman to life with her beautifully tuneful performance of Tightrope. Sofie J. followed with a confident and poised rendition of Speechless from Aladdin, demonstrating her strong stage presence.
Freya M-L. captivated the audience with her emotional delivery of “Lifeboat” from Heathers, leaving a lasting impression. Lorcan B-G. and Eddie P. then teamed up for a wonderful instrumental performance of John Williams’ theme from Superman, adding a dynamic and energetic element to the competition.
The event concluded with a powerful duet by Zita I. and Lucas R., who performed Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Once Upon a Time. Their moving performance was so heartfelt that it brought both judges to tears, providing a memorable end to a morning of exceptional talent.
The competition winners were announced as follows:
- First Form: Second place went to Sofie J., with Georgina C. taking first place.
- Second Form: Third place was awarded to Lucas R., second place to Toby T., and first place to Adrien B.
- Overall Winner: Adrien B.
- Overall Ensemble: Second place went to Lorcan B-G. and Eddie P., with first place awarded to Zita I. and Lucas R.
The Ingrams House Music Competition highlighted not only the musical skills of Kimbolton School students but also their ability to connect with the audience through genuine emotion and dedication to their craft. The morning was a testament to the school’s vibrant artistic community and its commitment to fostering young talent.
