English Schools Cross Country Championships

Congratulations Clara, Tiggy and Harrison who recently represented Cambridgeshire in the ESAA English Schools’ Cross Country Championships at Pontefract.

In the Junior Girls’ category, there were over 340 runners, representing 46 counties, with 339 finishing their race.  Second Formers, Clara and Tiggy did a wonderful job, with Clara first over the line for Cambridgeshire in 96th place, closely followed by Tiggy in 107th – no mean feat, as the girls were running against Year 9s as well as Year 8s in their category.

Clara’s race wasn’t without a little bit of drama, first stumbling and getting her hand spiked early in the race resulting in a couple of bloody deep cuts and then losing one of her shoes in the mud just before the finish, crossing the line with one shoe!  Overall, the Cambridgeshire Junior Girls came 32nd – a brilliant result, given the strong competition.

Third Former Harrison, who ran in the Junior Boys’ category, had a superb race as well, coming in 32nd place, and 2nd over the line for Cambridgeshire, in a race of 343 boys who finished.  As a result, the Cambridgeshire Junior Boys took 8th position as a team which they should be extremely proud of.

Well done Clara, Tiggy and Harrison – seriously impressive stuff.
