Three teams of 6th Form DTE students travelled to Norwich to take part in the F1 in Schools East Anglia Regional Finals last Thursday (15 February).
There were 12 teams competing in the Development Class this year and the standard this year was particularly high. Only the teams placing 1st and 2nd go through to the National Final, therefore ‘nail-biting’ was an understatement as the crowd waited for the results!
We are delighted to report that team Blue Mercury took 1st place, as well as scooping the Best Pit Stand award.
Our other two teams Vulcan Racing and ArrowHeads submitted very fast cars but did not get placings, demonstrating just how hard the competition was this year.
Well done to everyone who took part and to Mr Ellis and the DTE staff, and congratulations to Blue Mercury (Lili, Robyn, Harry, Jack, Vukasin and Miles) for their fantastic achievement in the UK’s biggest STEM competition.
We wish the team luck for the National Final next month.
F1 in Schools is a brilliant opportunity for 6th Form DTE students to get a head start in the world of Design and Technology. Participation in the competition forms part of Kimbolton’s ‘7th Period Super Curriculum’; enrichment sessions offering our A Level students wider academic opportunities.
