Kimbolton School is proud to celebrate the remarkable achievements of Old Kimboltonian Lucy Rigby, who has been appointed Solicitor General for England and Wales. Lucy, now the Labour MP for Northampton North, assumed this prestigious position following her election to the House of Commons in July’s general election.
The Solicitor General, a key ministerial role within the government, supports the Attorney General in overseeing legal matters and promoting the rule of law both domestically and internationally. Lucy’s responsibilities will include deputising for the Attorney General, the Rt Hon Lord Hermer KC, at the parliamentary business and legislation cabinet committee. She will also play an integral role in legal decisions and public interest matters.
Lucy’s journey to this significant role reflects her dedication and expertise in the legal field. Before entering politics, she worked as a solicitor, gaining valuable experience in law and governance. Her predecessor as MP for Northampton North, Sir Michael Ellis, also served as Solicitor General from 2019 to 2021, making her appointment a continuation of the constituency’s history of legal influence.
In addition to her new role, Lucy was recently appointed as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice, Shabana Mahmood, further highlighting her rising prominence in the legal and political arenas.
Lucy Rigby’s achievements serve as a source of pride and inspiration for the Kimbolton community. Her dedication to public service and the rule of law exemplifies the values nurtured at Kimbolton School, where ambition, integrity, and leadership are key pillars of education.
As Solicitor General, Lucy joins a distinguished group of Kimbolton alumni who have made significant contributions to society in various fields. Her journey from Kimbolton to the halls of Parliament demonstrates the impact and reach of a Kimbolton education.
The Solicitor General’s duties are critical to upholding justice and ensuring fair legal processes. Lucy will not only contribute to key legal decisions but also work to promote the rule of law internationally, furthering the principles of fairness and equality.
Kimbolton School extends its heartfelt congratulations to Lucy Rigby on this incredible achievement. We look forward to seeing her continued success and the positive impact she will have in her role as Solicitor General.
