Kimbolton School has been named a finalist in the STEM Initiative of the Year category at the 2026 Cambridge Independent Science and Technology Awards, recognising the impact of its long-running science masterclass programme.
The annual awards celebrate the individuals, organisations and initiatives driving innovation and inspiring the next generation across the Cambridge region’s globally renowned science and technology sector. Winners are set to be announced at a ceremony in May.
Kimbolton’s nomination highlights the success of its Science Masterclasses, an outreach initiative designed to engage and inspire young learners beyond the classroom. Delivered by the school’s teaching staff, the programme offers hands-on, curriculum-enhancing experiences that encourage curiosity and deepen understanding in STEM subjects.

The masterclasses form part of the school’s wider commitment to community engagement and educational outreach. Since their launch, they have grown significantly in popularity, now welcoming hundreds of pupils each year and earning a strong reputation for enriching learning beyond the National Curriculum.
Headteacher Will Chuter said the shortlisting reflects the dedication of both staff and pupils in fostering a culture of curiosity and collaboration.
“We are incredibly proud of the work our staff and pupils do to support and engage with the wider community. This recognition reflects that shared commitment.”
The recognition places Kimbolton School alongside leading science organisations, charities and companies across the region, underlining the growing importance of educational outreach in supporting the future STEM talent pipeline.
With the awards drawing a high volume of entries each year, being shortlisted is a significant achievement and a testament to the strength and impact of the school’s programme.
As anticipation builds ahead of the awards ceremony, the Kimbolton community will be hoping its innovative approach to science engagement earns top honours.
