World Book ‘Week’ 2024

World Book Day was a whirlwind of excitement for all of the children at Kimbolton Prep! Potter met Paddington as an enormous variety of very convincing characters arrived in School that morning, looking forward to a day of book-based fun!

The children in the Lower Prep were visited by Year 6, who had spent hours lovingly creating their own storybooks, especially for the Lower Prep children. When Year 6 had left, Lower Prep took on the challenge of decorating potatoes to look like the character they had come dressed as. There were some uncanny resemblances!

In Upper Prep students enjoyed character mash and book club activities, and students throughout the whole school were treated to story raids by some willing Sixth Form volunteers! More Sixth Formers returned in the afternoon, to help each class to create beautiful class murals, featuring all the characters that they had come dressed as that day. Staff were excellent sports, donning outfits depicting their own favourite book characters, and there were rumours that they enjoyed dressing up more than the children!

At the Senior School, Head of English Alice O’Donnell began the week with an assembly highlighting some of the most infamous banned books. Events at the Castle included two creative writing workshops for pupils led by authors Anthony McGowan and Savita Khalan, respectively.   A ‘Get your Child Back into Reading’ workshop for parents, a book-themed cake sale, a lunchtime trail to search for banned books, a ‘Get Caught Reading’ competition and a ‘Drop Everything and Read’ session on the morning of World Book Day itself.

Congratulations on another brilliant World Book Day (and week), and thank you to everyone who made it such a success.
