On Wednesday, 26 March, 20 talented students from Ingram’s took to the stage at the Shakespeare Schools Festival, delivering a gripping, high-energy performance of Macbeth. After months of dedication, rehearsing since January to perfect the dark and brooding atmosphere of Shakespeare’s tragedy, the cast rose to the occasion with resilience, courage, and incredible teamwork—learning new drama skills along the way.
Guided by the expert staff team including Miss Westwood ( Choreographer) and Mrs Parle (Production) and with seamless execution from our brilliant student-led stage crew and tech team, the production was a roaring success. The industrial warehouses and rave culture of 1990s Glasgow provided the perfect backdrop for a gangland reimagining of the play, where criminal bosses Macduff and Macbeth battled for control. From raucous football chants to ferocious stage fights, the cast delivered a high-impact performance to a packed-out audience at the Junction Theatre, Cambridge.
Murder, mayhem, and mischief were masterfully conjured by our three witches—Albert, Rose, and Anaïs—whose eerie, spine-chilling performances will haunt the memories of our audience for a long time. A special mention must go to William and Georgina, whose portrayals of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth were nothing short of electrifying. Their flawless delivery of hundreds of lines, their intensity, and their command of the stage brought Shakespeare’s most infamous power couple to life with terrifying conviction.
It has been a complete joy to work with such a committed and talented cast, and I sincerely hope many will return next year for more Shakespeare at the Castle—watch this space! A huge thank you to the parents for their unwavering support (and countless rehearsal lifts), and finally, to the cast: take a well-earned rest over Easter—you’ve earned it.
Scotland!!! ( For the cast😊)
