The Prep School’s outdoor amphitheatre was alive with music, sunshine and smiles as pupils took to the stage for this year’s Summer Music Soirée.
In front of a delighted audience of families and staff, the evening celebrated the breadth and vibrancy of musical life at the Prep – from samba and ukuleles to choirs, strings, winds and brass. With more than a dozen ensembles taking part, there was something for everyone to enjoy.
The programme featured confident performances from our recorder groups, a lively Jazz Juniors rendition of C Jam Blues, expressive choral pieces from all three choirs and orchestral numbers from the Swan and Cygnet ensembles. The Sound of Music medley and Naughty from Matilda brought storytelling to life in song, while Lean on Me was a touching finale that brought all our performers together in harmony.
Adding to the excitement were two pupil formed bands: Only Girls Allowed delivered a charismatic pop performance, while Purple Reign, the Prep’s very own boy band, rocked the stage with classic anthems. Both groups brought energy and personality, complementing the rich variety of the evening’s music.
Head of Prep Music, Helena McKillop, shared her pride in the young performers:
“This evening was a wonderful celebration of our pupils’ commitment, energy and musical growth throughout the year. It’s a real joy to see them take to the stage with such confidence and enthusiasm – and to do so in the sunshine, surrounded by family and friends, made it all the more memorable.”
The concert not only showcased talent but highlighted the sense of community that underpins music making at Kimbolton. It was a great finale to the Summer term’s musical calendar and a fitting reminder of the creativity and teamwork fostered every day in the Prep.
