Denim & sustainability: Guest Lecture launches Big Green Summer

As part of the launch of our Big Green Summer, pupils at Kimbolton School were inspired by a fascinating guest lecture exploring how the fashion industry is becoming more sustainable.

Delivered by Laura Dixon, founder of ThreebyOne, the talk—“Denim’s Journey from Blue to Green”—offered a powerful insight into the environmental impact of fast fashion and the innovations transforming denim production.

Through real-world examples and industry case studies, pupils learned how traditional manufacturing processes—often associated with high water usage and chemical pollution—are being reimagined. From more sustainable dyeing techniques to circular design practices, the session highlighted how the industry is moving towards more responsible and environmentally conscious production.

The lecture also explored the rise of fast fashion and its global impact, encouraging pupils to think critically about consumption, materials, and the lifecycle of clothing. It provided a valuable link between classroom learning and real-world application, bringing sustainability into sharp focus.

This event is one of many taking place as part of our Big Green Summer, a whole-school initiative designed to embed sustainability across curriculum, culture, and community . By connecting pupils with experts and current industry thinking, we aim to empower them to make informed choices and become active participants in shaping a more sustainable future.

We are very grateful to Laura for sharing her expertise and inspiring our pupils with such an engaging and thought-provoking session.
