Prep Sports Day 2025: From ice-lollies to record breakers

Blue skies, big picnics and plenty of cheering set the tone for a fun day at Kimbolton Prep’s annual Sports Day. From the first obstacle course to the final tug of war, there was no shortage of energy, enthusiasm and teamwork across the school’s beautiful grounds.

Lower Prep pupils kicked off the morning with a carousel of fun team challenges, obstacle courses, egg and spoon races, fancy footwork and more. Pupils from Reception to Year 2 were grouped into mixed age teams (Panthers, Leopards, Cheetahs, Tigers, Pumas and Jaguars) and encouraged each other every step of the way.

After a lunch break and a well-earned ice lolly, the children returned for their year group races. The popular sack race made a welcome appearance, adding a dash of nostalgia for our parent spectators during the lively afternoon.

While Lower Prep enjoyed their activities, Upper Prep pupils were busy across a full programme of athletic events. From sprints and relays to long jump, high jump and sports ball throws, pupils in Years 3 to 6 competed with real commitment. Representing their Houses (Fitzpiers, Montague, Stafford and Wingfield) they supported each other with enthusiasm and pride. With several pupils achieving new school records, adding even more excitement to the day.

Mrs Claire Petrie, Head of Prep, at Kimbolton School said:

“This was my very first Prep Sports Day, and I could not have been more delighted.  It was a wonderful day filled with energy, enthusiasm, and a real sense of community. Watching our pupils give their all, support one another, and show such fantastic sportsmanship was truly heartwarming. I am incredibly grateful to our families and supporters for cheering the children on, and to my dedicated staff team, whose hard work made the entire day such a success.”
