Pupils Shine at Ingrams House Music Competition 2025

The Music Department’s annual Ingrams House Music Competition brought together First and Second Form pupils for an uplifting evening of music, energy and friendly rivalry in Lewis Hall on Tuesday 10 June.

Adjudicated by Mrs Helena McKillop, the event showcased a selection of outstanding soloists from this year’s instrumental and vocal competitions before culminating in a vibrant Class Singing showdown. Pupils performed with flair, confidence and camaraderie, cheered on by their peers and families.

There were standout solo performances across the board, with cups awarded for each instrumental family, voice, and ensemble. Georgie L received both the Brass and Piano Cups, while Emilia D was awarded the Percussion Cup and later won the prestigious Jeffries Cup – the adjudicator’s top pick of the night – for her powerful performance of Rope on the drum kit. The Singing Cup went to Rose H, and the Strings Cup to Alfie G.

Other cup winners included Luca K (Guitar), William P (Woodwind), and the 2D ensemble of William P, Mikey P and Leon P, who were awarded the Ensemble Cup. The Audience Prize, decided by popular vote, was awarded to Oscar M for his lively and confident rendition of Despacito on voice and guitar.

The class singing competition, featuring hits by Coldplay, was a particular highlight. The Ks’ rendition of Paradise impressed adjudicators and audience alike, earning them the Burns Trophy. Their efforts, combined with strong showings in the solo categories, also secured 1K and 2K the top spots in their respective year groups.

The Wilson Cup, recognising the highest-scoring form in the individual events, was awarded to 2P.

Reflecting on the event, Mr David Gibbs, Director of Music, said:

“Ingrams House Music continues to be one of the most anticipated events in our calendar. It’s a real celebration of enthusiasm, talent and hard work. I’m incredibly proud of every pupil who took part – not just for their musical performances, but for the spirit of support and community they showed throughout.”

Congratulations to all our performers – and thank you to our audience, staff and adjudicator for helping to make the evening such a success.
