On a typically British grey day, the Lower Prep Prize Giving at The Hunter Hall, held on the 23 May 2024, brought a wave of joy and cheer to the attending parents and guests. The event celebrated the achievements and aspirations of our young students, creating an atmosphere of warmth and inspiration.
Headmaster Mr Will Chuter and Prep School Headmaster Mr Phil Foley joined our Lower Prep children for the occasion. The ceremony commenced with a heartfelt welcome from Head of Lower Prep, Mrs Laura Collins, who spoke about the dreams and aspirations of all our Prep children, setting a positive tone for the event. The entertainment began with Year 1’s enchanting rendition of A Million Dreams from The Greatest Showman, followed by a whimsical performance by Year 2, who delighted the audience with Super Supper March in which they dreamed of “Goulash” and a “Goose, Goose Burger!”
The highlight of the event was the awarding of prizes. The Endeavour Prizes were awarded to the following pupils:
– Isabelle R. (2A) and Myles R. (2A)
– Emily A-M. (2K) and Aiden G. (2K)
– Beau B. (1A) and Dylan G. (1A)
– Rey B. (1K) and Allegra C-E. (1K)
Academic Prizes, recognising high academic achievement across all subjects, were awarded to:
– Dylan C. (2A) and Cameron D. (2K)
– Daisy W. (1A) and Teddy C. (1K)
The prestigious Aragon House Cup, awarded to a pupil demonstrating a positive attitude in and out of the classroom, was presented to Ava S.
The children entertained the audience with a charming recital of Dr. Seuss’ poem Be Kind and A.A. Milne’s When I was One. Headmaster Mr Chuter then captivated everyone with his talk about his passion for Roald Dahl, quoting a favourite passage from Danny the Champion of the World:
“A message to the children who have read this book. When you grow up and have children of your own, do please remember something important. A stodgy parent is no fun at all! What a child wants – and DESERVES – is a parent who is SPARKY!”
Mr Chuter made a promise to the children that all their teachers and parents would continue to strive to be “sparky”.
The event also included a touching tribute to Mr Phil Foley, our Head of Prep, who will be leaving at the end of the academic year. Our Reception class performed a moving adaptation of We’re Going on a Bear Hunt with enthusiastic actions and ending with a touching farewell message. Each Reception child then received a Kimbolton School bear as a memento of their first year at our special school – and for such an engaging performance!
The ceremony concluded with a heart-warming performance by the Lower Prep Choir, singing A Magic Penny. Afterwards, parents, teachers, and children mingled, reflecting on the day’s special moments.
The Lower Prep Prize Giving was a day filled with pride, joy, and inspiration, proving that even the greyest of days can be brightened by the achievements and dreams of our young learners. As we head into the half-term break, we carry with us the memories of a truly special event, looking forward to many more celebrations in the future.
