Languages take centre stage at Kimbolton

On Monday, 29 September, Kimbolton School celebrated its Day of Languages, highlighting and celebrating the many voices that make up the school community.

The day began with a Languages Day assembly, where the central message encouraged everyone to embrace curiosity, courage and connection through language:

“Even if you only learn a single word, that word could be the start of a new friendship, or the moment someone feels seen and valued. So be curious. Be brave. Try out new words. Celebrate the voices of others. Because every time you do, you will be more connected.”

This message was also shared in Spanish and French, reflecting the spirit of linguistic diversity that ran throughout the day.

Spanish: “Así que sé curioso. Sé valiente. Prueba palabras nuevas. Celebra las voces de los demás. Porque cada vez que lo hagas, estarás más conectado.”

French: “Alors, soyez curieux. Soyez courageux. Essayez de nouveaux mots. Célébrez la voix des autres. Parce que chaque fois que vous le ferez, vous serez davantage connectés.”

Throughout the day, pupils enjoyed a wide range of language-themed activities across the school:

  • A special menu in the dining hall, featuring international dishes.
  • The Ingrams Bake Off and cake sale.
  • Games, food and challenges in the WBLT, bringing people together through fun and competition.
  • A Languages Day assembly, where Sixth Form linguists spoke about the power of languages and the whole school sang in four different languages.
  • The Day of Languages Poster Competition, showcasing pupils’ creativity.
  • The Duolingo Challenge, encouraging everyone to test their skills and climb the leaderboard.
  • Tutor time challenges, with language-themed puzzles and activities throughout the week.

The celebration brought the entire school together, encouraging everyone to explore new words, celebrate different cultures and connect through language. It was a wonderful reflection of the many voices, talents and cultures that make up the Kimbolton community.
