Kimbolton Pupils Celebrate Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Success at Buckingham Palace

Several Kimbolton School pupils and Old Kimboltonians, recently celebrated achieving the prestigious Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award with a special presentation event at Buckingham Palace.

The memorable occasion brought together thousands of young people from across the country who have successfully completed the highest level of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme. Held in the grounds of Buckingham Palace, the event was a fitting celebration of the dedication, resilience and commitment demonstrated by all Gold Award holders.

Blessed with warm sunshine, pupils enjoyed a wonderful day of recognition and celebration. The programme included inspiring talks from a range of well-known motivational speakers, a brass band performance of the National Anthem, and the opportunity to enjoy traditional afternoon tea and cakes in the Palace grounds.

The Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is the highest achievement within the DofE programme and requires participants to complete extensive volunteering, physical and skills activities, undertake a challenging expedition, and complete a residential experience. The award is widely recognised for helping young people develop confidence, leadership skills and a sense of service to their communities.

Kimbolton School continues to see strong participation and success in the programme. Last year, 29 Year 13 pupils successfully completed their Gold Award, while 16 members of the current Year 13 cohort have already achieved the award this year.

The volunteering element alone represents a remarkable contribution to the wider community. Collectively, this year’s Gold Award recipients have completed an estimated 861 hours of volunteering, supporting a wide range of local organisations, charities and community initiatives.

Martin Bray, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Manager at Kimbolton School, said:

“The Gold Award is a significant achievement that reflects the determination, commitment and character of our pupils. We are incredibly proud of all those who have completed the award and represented the School at Buckingham Palace. The hundreds of hours they have devoted to volunteering demonstrate their willingness to make a positive difference in their communities, which is at the heart of the DofE ethos.”

Headmaster Will Chuter added:

“The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award challenges young people to step beyond their comfort zones, develop new skills and serve others. We are delighted to celebrate the success of our Gold Award holders and congratulate them on reaching this outstanding milestone. Their achievements reflect not only personal perseverance but also a genuine commitment to contributing positively to society.”

Congratulations to all our Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award recipients on this exceptional achievement.
