Gibbards claim victory in close fought House Sailing Competition

On Tuesday, 24 September, pupils from across the 5th & 6th form took to the water for this year’s Senior House Sailing Competition, a much anticipated event in the House calendar. Held in  breezy conditions, the afternoon delivered three fast-paced races and some nail-biting competition between the crews.

Each House was represented by a team of two pupils, a helm and a crew. Racing in Firefly dinghies, the teams demonstrated impressive skill and composure, with all races sailed over a short triangular course under standard dinghy racing rules.

From the outset, it was clear that Gibbards and Owens would be the ones to watch. The two Houses traded wins in the first two races, leaving them tied on points heading into the decider. However, a pre-start penalty for Owens in the final race gave Gibbards the edge, allowing them to secure the win and clinch overall victory.

All participants raced in House-coloured rash vests for easy identification, and the event was a brilliant showcase of teamwork, sailing ability and House spirit.

Final Results:
🥇 1st – Gibbards (1st, 2nd, 1st = 4 points)
🥈 2nd – Owens (2nd, 1st, 3rd = 6 points)
🥉 3rd – Balyes (3rd, 4th, 2nd = 9 points)
4th – Dawsons (4th, 3rd, 4th = 11 points)

Congratulations to all who took part and especially to Gibbards on a well-deserved win!
