As a new year begins and we all start thinking about which clubs to sign up for, I wanted to share a behind-the-scenes look at one of the most unusual and brilliant clubs we have at Kimbolton: Curiosity Club. If you like nature, exploring the outdoors, investigating wildlife, or just trying something completely different each week, then this might be the club for you.
Curiosity Club. What is it? And why should you go? Curiosity Club takes place after school on Fridays in B4. There are also some sessions before school and on non-match Saturdays. The club is run by Mrs Garland with some help from the club members. It’s aimed at anyone from any year group. With a bit of science and nature involved, the club focuses on spending time on our beautiful grounds and admiring the wonderful nature on our site. Perfect for anyone who wants to relax after a long week of school. Every week, the club does something different and amazing. Recently, members of the club have had a chance to do some incredible activities such as pond dipping, making a bug hotel, setting up wildlife cameras to observe the animals that only come out at night and more. They are planning leaf rubbing and identifying them, moth traps and more walks. Make sure to join before you miss out on some awesome activities.
Hugo Ward from the 3rd Form shared some of his views on the club. Here’s what he said:
What made you want to join this club?
“I joined the club because I really like nature and seeing what we have on our school grounds. I also wanted to spend time with people who share the same interests as me.”
Why do you enjoy Curiosity Club?
“I mainly enjoy Curiosity Club as I get to do something that I like: to be with nature and with other people who like nature too. Additionally, I think our school grounds are stunning and more people need to be aware of what’s on our site.”
Have you learnt anything interesting or meaningful from your time in this club?
“The one thing I have learnt that I think everyone else should bear in mind is that joining a club centred around an interest of yours is a great idea. It allows you to make new friends with someone that you may not have thought of being friends with but it also lets us come together as a family.”
