Cadets put skills to the test during 24-hour army field weekend

Our Fifth Form (Year 11) and Lower Sixth Form (Year 12) Army Section cadets embraced the challenge of a 24-hour Field Weekend at Honeywell Woods on the nearby Brookwell Estate — an invaluable opportunity to develop resilience, leadership and teamwork in a real-field environment.

Under the guidance of our experienced CCF staff, cadets spent the night sleeping under bashas, cooking their meals using MOD ration packs, and working together to complete a full programme of practical training. Activities included night navigation, stalking exercises, camouflage and concealment, ambush drills, distance estimation, and a range of leadership tasks designed to stretch their problem-solving and communication skills.

The weekend offered a taste of the diverse experiences available through the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) at Kimbolton School, where pupils gain confidence and capability through Army, RAF and Royal Navy sections. Alongside regular parade afternoons, cadets enjoy opportunities such as flying and gliding, fieldcraft training, first aid, leadership development, target shooting, adventure training, and national camps.

All the cadets taking part in the Field Weekend did themselves proud, demonstrating maturity, determination and impressive teamwork throughout.
