Interview by Emma & Elizabeth in Year 6
We, Emma and Elizabeth from 6V, interviewed Mrs Petrie to find out more about our new Head. We asked her lots of different questions and really enjoyed hearing her responses. We started with the serious questions about being a Head, then tried to find out a little bit more about Mrs Petrie, the person.
What were your first impressions of this school when you first joined?
There was such a strong family feel about the school. I also noticed immediately the glorious and far-reaching grounds we have, as well as how polite the pupils are at Kimbolton Prep. I was very impressed with the manners and behaviour of all the pupils here.
If there was one thing you could change about the school, what would it be?
One thing I would love to change would be for parents to be able to see what we get up to on a day-to-day basis and for them to have more windows of opportunity to come to all our events, fixtures, open days and lessons to witness all of the wonderful opportunities which take place.
What is your vision for Kimbolton Prep school?
It is to ensure that we have well rounded children who are polite, well-mannered, put others before themselves and live and breathe the school values. I also want to ensure that our curriculum is forward thinking and modern, preparing our young learners for the senior school and beyond.
Why are you introducing engineering in the art and DT subject?
This idea came from conversations with Ms Prebble our Head of Art and DT about ensuring that the curriculum was preparing our pupils for the future with the skills they need. I am sure it will help Years 5 and 6 with their problem-solving skills, creative thinking, curiosity and teamwork.
In your spare time do you have any interests or hobbies?
I lovereading and going to the theatre to watch musicals in London such as the Lion King or Matilda. I also enjoy all sports, watching and playing if I get the opportunity, as well as teaching myself new skills – such as magic tricks! However, my all-time favourite thing to do is to travel and experience different parts of the world with my own family!
What is your opinion on the food from the canteen, and do you have any favourites?
I would give the food an astounding 10\10 for both the food and the service. The staff always have a beaming smile on their faces and work incredibly hard. My favourite foods are things such as baguettes or paninis and the salad bar, although I try to avoid having desserts too often!
Do you take part in any school events, and which one has been your favourite so far?
My whole family loved the fireworks and the Christmas fair. The KSPA’s contribution to our school is incredible. I also really enjoy watching the Kimbolton pupils take part in the many different events on offer to them such as sports fixtures, music performances, drama, poetry and much more!
What colour suits would you want to wear next year?
Our lovely pupils keep suggesting I should buy a purple suit(!) so perhaps I should in order to match with the school or possibly more patterned suits which are quite unique.
If you could enter an event in Sports Day what would it be?
I would have enjoyed the tug of war, but if there was a three-legged race I would definitely participate in that!
What was your favourite sport at school?
Hockey was my favourite sport, however I also enjoyed netball, football, cricket and running along with some chess when I had the time!
Which club would you choose to participate in from all our activities?
On Friday afternoons I often smell the delicious food coming from the Year 5 cookery club, each week smelling even better than the last, occasionally I enjoy tasting what the children have made – so this is the club I would love to participate in!
