A Magical Ride: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang JR Takes Off at Kimbolton

Kimbolton School’s latest drama production, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang JR, soared into action this June – with a talented cast of pupils captivating audiences in a joyful celebration of storytelling, music and imagination.

Performed in the Lewis Hall, the show told the story of Caractacus Potts and his children, Jeremy and Jemima, as they restored a broken-down race car with magical powers. With help from Truly Scrumptious, they journeyed to the distant land of Vulgaria to rescue Grandpa Potts and stand up to the wicked Baron and Baroness Bomburst – with plenty of laughter and music along the way.

The production showcased the full breadth of talent across the school. From the principal cast to the vibrant ensemble, from the live band and technical operators to the backstage crew and front-of-house team, pupils from a wide range of year groups brought their individual strengths to the production.

The show also highlighted pupil leadership in action.  A team of student directors played an active role in shaping the rehearsal process and supporting their peers, demonstrating creativity and a deep understanding of theatrical storytelling.

Stephanie Lace, Drama Teacher at Kimbolton School reflected on the production, praising the cast’s energy and collaboration:

“The enthusiasm, commitment and positivity of the cast were remarkable – they approached every rehearsal with energy and focus. What stood out most was the way they worked together as a team, supporting and encouraging one another throughout. It was a real privilege to watch them grow in confidence and create something so amazing together.”

Drama plays a central role in Kimbolton School life, offering opportunities for pupils of all ages to take creative risks, develop their performance skills, confidence, communication skills and grow as individuals. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang JR was a shining example of what happens when young people are given the chance to lead, create and inspire.

A warm thank you goes to everyone who came along to support the show – your applause, encouragement and presence helped make the performances truly unforgettable.
