From Reception to Upper Sixth: A journey full of memories

Yesterday, our Upper Sixth pupils returned to the Prep School for a special afternoon filled with reflection, laughter and a renewed appreciation for just how far they have come since their very first days in Reception.

Stepping back into the familiar surroundings where their school journey began, pupils enjoyed revisiting old classrooms, playgrounds and favourite spots from their earliest years. There was plenty of amusement as they compared memories, shared stories and smiled at how much smaller everything now seemed.

The visit was not only a chance to look back, but also an opportunity to connect with the younger pupils currently making their own first memories. From playground games to shared adventures outdoors, the afternoon was full of energy and joy, highlighting the enduring bonds that connect every stage of school life.

This year’s visit also carried an extra sense of significance as we look to the future. With the introduction of Pre-School this year, today’s youngest children are just beginning their own journey at Kimbolton. In years to come, they too will have the opportunity to look back on their beginnings, following in the footsteps of this year’s Upper Sixth pupils as they make their own full-circle return.

Alice O’Donnell, Director of Sixth Form, said:

“Returning to where it all began is always such a meaningful experience for our Upper Sixth pupils. It gives them the chance to reflect on how much they have grown, not only academically but personally, while celebrating the friendships and experiences that have shaped them. This year, it is especially exciting to think that our new Pre-School children are beginning that same journey even earlier, creating memories that will one day come full circle too.”

As our Upper Sixth prepare for their final weeks at school and the exciting opportunities ahead, yesterday’s visit was a joyful celebration of their journey from Reception to Sixth Form — while also looking ahead to the many future generations who will one day do the same.
