Reception pupils recently made the most of the beautiful spring weather with an outdoor learning experience in Squirrel Wood.
The children were able to enjoy the sunshine and take a walk down to Squirrel Wood. As they walked across across the school fields, they enjoying seeing a variety of vibrant spring flowers in bloom. This provided a wonderful opportunity to appreciate the changing season and explore the natural environment.
Once they arrived at Squirrel Wood, the pupils took part in a creative and collaborative activity: building their own bird nests. Working together, the children carefully considered what real birds might need in order to create a safe and comfortable home. They thoughtfully constructed their nests by building up sturdy walls and adding soft materials such as feathers and leaves to make them cosy.
The children also showed great imagination and care by including food supplies for hungry birds and even designing inventive contraptions to help baby birds learn to fly. Once their nests were complete, they tested them by placing pretend eggs inside to see if they would be suitable for real birds to use.
The activity highlighted excellent teamwork, creativity and problem-solving skills. The nests created were truly impressive, and the experience provided a memorable and engaging way for Reception pupils to connect with nature.
