Kimbolton Prep embraced a vibrant two day celebration of global culture as pupils across the school took part in this year’s Languages Day. The highlight of the event was the pair of lively cultural catwalks, with both Upper Prep and Lower Prep showcasing an impressive display of creativity, confidence and cultural awareness.
The first day began with classes transforming their doors into bright, eye catching displays inspired by different countries and cultures. Every pupil contributed to the designs, supported by specialist Prep School teachers and a team of Sixth Form linguists who visited Upper Prep classrooms to help bring the ideas to life and talk with pupils about their own language journeys.
As the morning progressed, anticipation grew for the Upper Prep cultural catwalk. Pupils gathered in Hunter Hall, seated in their Houses, ready to cheer on their peers. Wingfield, Stafford, Fitzpiers and Montagu took to the runway in turn, each group presenting a thoughtful range of outfits and cultural elements they had prepared during their rehearsal session. The catwalk was a true celebration of diversity and teamwork, with Head Judge, Mr Hope and the judging panel enjoying a superb display from all Houses.

Following the catwalk, pupils returned to their bases to prepare for the remaining activities, before enjoying an international-themed lunch. The afternoon continued with door decorating and a well-attended Languages Fair, where parents and staff showcased a wonderful variety of home languages and cultural traditions from the school community. Pupils moved around the stalls in small groups, engaging in conversations, asking questions and discovering more about the languages spoken within Kimbolton.
The celebration continued into the second day with activities tailored to Lower Prep. The morning began with an assembly written and presented by the Year 6 Language Leaders, who shared cultural insights and set the tone for the day. Lower Prep pupils then spent time creating their colourful cultural hats before enjoying a French-style breakfast of croissants, adding to the sense of occasion. After breakfast, several parent visitors joined classes to talk about their home languages and cultural traditions, giving pupils a warm and personal insight into the diversity within their own school community.
Lower Prep then took centre stage with their own colourful catwalk, proudly displaying the bright and imaginative hats they had created, each one inspired by a different culture or country. The event was supported by the Year 6 Language Leaders, who helped guide pupils and ensure the catwalk ran smoothly. The result was a colourful and confident showcase that allowed younger pupils to shine and celebrate their learning.
Across both days, Languages Day offered pupils the opportunity to celebrate the rich cultural diversity of the school, explore new perspectives and learn from one another in a warm, engaging environment. From creative door designs to two fun catwalks, the event reflected Kimbolton’s commitment to curiosity, kindness and community.
