Computer Science at Kimbolton is growing from strength to strength. With the Computer Science A Level in its second year, our pioneering upper 6th formers are busy completing their coursework projects, finishing off the last remaining chapters in the course and and gearing up to tackle their first complete exam practice papers. Finding out the first A Level results next year will be exciting indeed.
To accommodate the increase in Computer Science classes the department has expanded into a second classroom, complete with a suite of Mac computers exclusively for the older years to tackle their coding and programming projects.
Computer Science also sees its first tranche of Scholars this year; intrepid pupils from across the year groups with a passion for the subject who are keen to incorporate their skills and love of the subject into wider school life. We are hoping to visit the Computer Museum at Bletchley park later this year and sign up Scholars on some challenging national competitions.
The most celebratory achievements this year, however, are the recent GCSE results. Out of 13 pupils who took the exams 2 pupils achieved a level 8 and 5 pupils achieved a level 9! Computer Science is a difficult subject to achieve the highest grade in and these results were incredible.
A special mention should go to Lucas in the Third Form, who self-taught himself the entire course using the school’s online resources and achieved one of those level 9s!
With Computing being one of the (if not the) most important and lucrative areas for future employment, it is exciting to see the passion and drive pupils have for the subject at Kimbolton. Computer Science is continuing to integrate with the Careers department to open pupil’s eyes to all the opportunities the subject brings, including looking forward to an exciting visit by a member of TikTok’s Online Safety department later in the year.
